OCENR distributed 5, 570 mangrove propagules and 948 tree seedlings

The Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) through the Forestry Management, Protected Area and Wildlife Section distributed 5, 570 mangrove propagules and 948 tree seedlings since January this year. 

Individuals, different government agencies, and non-government organizations such as Philippine National Police (PNP) Zamboanga City Police Stations 4,  and 7, Department of Agriculture, Barangay Council of Zambowood, Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ZCDRRMO), Rotary West, Rotary Club of Zamboanga, Dino Duterte, Department of Education, Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU), 551 Philippine Army, Regional Communications and Electronics- PNP, Local Government Unit of Banguingui, PNP- Special Action Force (SAF), Versatile Security Agency, Free Gardeners, Lakwacheros de Zamboanga are among the recipients of mangrove propagules and tree seedlings. 

As part of the OCENR’s goal to improve the ecosystem and mitigate and adapt to climate change through reforestation and enrichment planting,  the office has been managing mangrove and tree nurseries. Currently, the office has tree nurseries located at the OCENR Office in Barangay San Roque, Material Recovery Facility in Barang Lumbangan, Sanitary Landfill Facility in Barangay Salaan, and Barangay Baluno where tree species such as Narra, Nato, Lauan, Palo Maria, Mahogany, Ratan, Bamboo and other tree premium species are propagated. Moreover, the office manages a mangrove nursery at Barangay Talon-Talon to propagate  Bakauan Bangkaw, Bakauan Lalake, Bakauan Babae, Pagatpat, Pututan, Tangal, Piagaw, and Langarai.
