ZC joins International Coastal Cleanup 2022

In celebration of International Coastal Cleanup 2022 with a theme “Fighting for Trash-Free Seas Filipinas,” the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR – CENRO) – conducted a joint coastal cleanup at Little Sta. Cruz Island on September 17, 2022.

The event was participated by the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, Philippine Army, and Sta. Cruz Island People’s Organization (SCIPO). Representatives of DENR- CENRO, For. Joanna Quijano and For. Joan Rebollos enlightened the participants about the importance of the conduct of coastal cleanups. Mr. Rodel C. Rodriguez of OCENR conducted a brief orientation to the participants particularly the divers on the proper way of removing wastes without causing damage to corals. Mr. Rodriguez reminded his fellow divers to follow dive safety protocol during this activity.

A total of ninety (90) sacks of non-biodegradable wastes were collected during the event.  85 sacks of wastes were collected along the shoreline and five (5) sacks were collected from underwater. The collected wastes are composed of assorted empty plastic bottles, styros, polybags, slippers, ropes, sacks, and diapers.
