Rehabilitating mangrove areas

Some 800 mangrove propagules were successfully planted today, February 28, at the Coastal Zone/Areas of Barangay Mampang by the city’s partner agencies, civic groups and security sector to include the AMISTAD Group, Southcom Transport Association and Zamboanga City Police Office with the technical assistance and planting materials provided by the City Government through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) in coordination with the DENR CENRO-ZC.

The wetlands planting activity is in line with the City’s ongoing rehabilitation, reforestation and enhancement efforts on city-managed Mangrove Areas in consonance with the recently adopted Forest Land Use Plan (FLUP) and the Framework Plan for Central Mangrove Forest of Zamboanga City covering seven (7) coastal barangays.

The same is in line with the World Wetlands Celebration this February.
